Seeley Lake Challenge Biathlon
8:00 AM (America/Denver)
Seeley Creek Ski Trails
Description:
The minimum an individual will ski is either 3K, 9K, or 21K. Races will be broken into heats based on the number of participants, targets, and shooting safety proctors. Categories for the 3K and 9K include Adult and Youth. Categories for the 21K include Adult and Elite. No matter which category you ski, the racers will ski a loop, shoot prone, ski a loop, shoot standing, and ski another loop. There is a 50 meter penalty loop for each missed shot. All events are freestyle. There are no separate categories for classic or skate.
This is the only "Citizens Biathlon" in Montana. No prior biathlon experience is required. Racers must provide their own ski equipment. Seeley Lake Biathlon will supply the rifles, targets and ammo. Racers will experience the thrills and challenges of biathlon. Firearm safety and safe range procedures take priority over race times. Gun safety and shooting training will be provided from 8:00AM to 9:30 AM before the races start. the 21K Elite Adult Biathlon starts at 10am; the 21K Adult Biathlon starts at 10:10am; the 9K Elite Adult Biathlon starts at 11:00am; The 9K Adult Biathlon starts at 11:10am; the 3K Youth and Adult biathlons begin at 1:30pm.
This race is a cooperative venture by the Seeley Lake Nordic Ski Club and the Wilderness Sportsman Club of Seeley Lake. Both are 501.c.4 Non-Profit Organizations. All proceeds go to these non-profits for youth and event development. Our goal is to provide an introduction to biathlon and firearm safety to all participants, with a priority on youth and the young at heart. Awards and food will be provided.
